Deputy Speaker Kalu Advocates for State Police in Nigeria

During the Arise News Townhall on Thursday, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, declared his support for the establishment of state police in Nigeria. Kalu argued that the creation of state police would facilitate quicker responses to crime and enhance national security.

He emphasized that the current insecurity issues plaguing the country could be mitigated by empowering state executives to command and control local security forces. Kalu assured that the National Assembly has already put legal measures in place to address concerns regarding potential abuse of power by state governors.

He articulated that unbundling the central police force would bring law enforcement closer to the people, thereby ensuring timely responses to incidents of crime.
