Chibok Community Urges Government to Arm Youths Amid Attacks

The Chibok community in Borno State has raised alarms over a resurgence of Boko Haram attacks, urging the federal government to equip local youths to defend their town. Recent violence has left several people dead and many displaced, with reports indicating that 432 lives have been lost due to 115 attacks since 2012.

The community, which has endured significant suffering since the infamous abduction of schoolgirls on April 14, 2014, is now experiencing coordinated assaults, with three villages—Kautikari, Kauthlama, and Kwopl—attacked, resulting in numerous casualties and injuries. The attacks have led to widespread destruction, including the burning of churches and the theft of livestock.

The community leader, Nkeki Mutah, has called for the establishment of a permanent military presence and training for local youths to assist security agencies. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with urgent needs for food, shelter, and medical care.

The community acknowledges the efforts of military and police personnel but emphasizes the need for more robust intervention.
