Nigerian Army Launches Security Patrols in Oyo Region

The Nigerian Army has commenced strategic day and night patrols and stop-and-search operations in Oyo town and surrounding communities to combat criminal activities and enhance security. This initiative follows the establishment of the 7 Brigade and Garrison headquarters in Oyo, with operations commencing after approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu.
The deployment was inspected by Maj. Gen. Auwalu Mahmuda, General Officer Commanding 2 Division, on October 1, 2026. Troops have been moved from Ote-Efon/Ojongbodu Barracks to key locations across Oyo Federal Constituency.
An advisory issued by Revd. Kolade Oladele and the 7 Brigade Public Relations Officer informed residents of the operations at major entry and exit points.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary late-night movements and cooperate with troops during security checks. The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has expressed support for the brigade's efforts.
