Nigerian Army Dismantles IPOB Hideout in Enugu Operation

On May 6, 2023, Nigerian Army troops, under the command of Lt. Col.

Olabisi Ayeni, conducted an operation in Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, targeting an alleged hideout of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The operation, which involved collaboration with security agencies, was initiated following intelligence reports about terrorist activities in the area.

During the operation, troops engaged in a gun battle with suspected IPOB members, resulting in injuries to three soldiers who were subsequently evacuated for medical treatment. The troops successfully destroyed a shrine used for ritual activities and recovered additional improvised explosive devices (IEDs) stored in the hideout.

The Nigerian Army urged the local community to remain calm and avoid harboring criminal elements, warning that those involved in illegal activities would face consequences. The operation aimed to dismantle the criminal network and ensure peace in the region.
