Nigerian Army Foils IED Attack in Abia State Forest

On April 3, 2026, the Nigerian Army's 145 Battalion, part of the 14 Brigade, successfully thwarted a potential IED attack in Umuchima Forest, located in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia State. This operation was initiated following credible intelligence received by the Brigade Intelligence Regiment, which prompted troops to launch a deliberate clearance and fight patrol in the forest.

During this operation, multiple improvised explosive devices were discovered strategically placed throughout the area, believed to be part of a coordinated effort by insurgents to undermine troop movements. The Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was immediately deployed to manage the threat, safely detonating the devices in situ and carefully recovering components for further technical analysis.

The recovery of these explosives is expected to aid ongoing intelligence exploitation and provide insights into the operational methods of the insurgent group.
