Nigerian Army Enhances Engineer Skills Against IEDs

The Nigerian Army commenced a seminar in Kaduna aimed at strengthening the capacity of its engineers to counter the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in security operations. Organized by the 41 Engineer Brigade, 1 Division Nigerian Army, the seminar coincided with the graduation of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Course 126.

Major General S.T. Shafaru, represented by Major General Josiah Attah, emphasized the importance of training for Nigerian Army engineers to enhance their combat support capabilities.

He noted that newly posted soldiers undergo basic combat engineering and artisan training at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering. The EOD course aims to address the shortage of EOD specialists and improve the capacity of engineers.

Shafaru highlighted the critical role of engineers in detecting and removing explosive devices to ensure safe passage for military convoys and civilians. Major General Abubakar Wase, represented by Brigadier General Anwar Abdullahi, stated that the seminar allows for idea exchange among troops and security agencies to combat IED threats effectively.
