Nigerian Army Trains Engineers to Combat IED Threat

On Thursday, the Nigerian Army commenced a seminar in Kaduna aimed at strengthening the capacity of its engineers to combat the rising threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in security operations. Organized by the 41 Engineer Brigade, 1 Division Nigerian Army, the seminar coincided with the graduation of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Course 126.

Shafaru, represented by Maj.-Gen. Josiah Attah, stated that the training is designed to equip engineers with essential skills for ongoing military operations.

He emphasized the need for continuous capacity building due to the increasing use of IEDs, which complicate military and humanitarian efforts. The course was introduced to address the shortage of EOD specialists.

Shafaru mentioned that Army engineers conduct clearance operations to detect and remove explosives, while EOD specialists are trained to disarm and destroy them. Collaboration with international partners, including the British Military Assistance Training Team and the German Training and Assistance Group, is ongoing to enhance technical expertise and intelligence sharing.
