Nigerian Army Trains 925 Borno Forest Guards for Security

The Nigerian Army has successfully trained 925 forest guards from Borno in a two-week theatre acclimatisation programme at the North-East Theatre Training School located in BuniYadi, Yobe. This training aimed to equip the forest guards with essential military skills to provide auxiliary support to troops engaged in combating terrorism and insurgency.

Maj.-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, stated during the graduation ceremony that the training was not intended to transform the forest guards into full soldiers but to elevate their capabilities above paramilitary standards. The trainees received instruction in various areas, including weapon handling, ambush tactics, and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) awareness.

Ajose commended the Borno Government for its support and thanked Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, for the resources provided. Governor Babagana Zulum, represented by Professor Usman Tar, emphasized the initiative's goal of mobilising local youths to assist the military in the fight against terrorism.
