Nigerian Army Expands Aviation Wing, Seeks South Africa Training

The Nigerian Army is set to expand its aviation wing and is actively seeking pilot training opportunities in South Africa. This initiative was disclosed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.

Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, during a meeting with the Chief of the South African Army, Lawrence Mbatha, in Abuja on Tuesday.

The collaboration aims to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Army, leveraging the established aviation expertise of the South African Army. Oluyede emphasized that this program is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, enhancing the Nigerian Army's aviation capabilities.

Additionally, the Nigerian Army is looking to expand training opportunities for its medical personnel at South African military health institutes, particularly in areas such as forensic pathology and critical care related to trauma injuries. The visit by Mbatha is part of ongoing efforts to build on existing bilateral military protocols between the two nations, focusing on knowledge exchange and operational collaboration.
