Nigerian Army Foils Kidnap Attempt in Kogi State

On May 30, 2026, troops from the 12 Brigade, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army conducted a successful operation in Kogi State, thwarting a kidnapping attempt. The operation, initiated following credible intelligence about planned kidnapping activities in the Jakura II community, involved the swift deployment of troops to a suspected terrorist crossing point along the old Obajana-Tajimi road.

During the ambush, the troops engaged the terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of one member of the criminal group, while others fled the scene with gunshot wounds. The operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, and 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, along with a mobile phone that provided further evidence of the criminals' involvement in kidnapping activities in the area.

Lt. Hassan Abdulahi, the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, stated that the operation demonstrated the resolve of the 12 Brigade to sustain offensive operations against terrorist elements threatening the security of citizens.

Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi commended the troops for their vigilance and efficiency.
