Nigerian Army Invests in Drone Technology for Operations

The Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, announced a significant investment in drone technology aimed at improving operational effectiveness during the closing ceremony of the Combat Arms Training Week 2026, held at Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State. This event brought together serving and retired senior military officers to discuss strategies for strengthening counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.

Shaibu emphasized that modern military success heavily relies on technological advancements, particularly intelligence-led operations. The Nigerian Army plans to expand its use of drone surveillance systems and combat aviation to enhance precision and troop effectiveness.

He underscored the importance of technology in adapting personnel to succeed on the battlefield. The training week featured live-fire demonstrations involving armored vehicles and infantry units, alongside simulated battlefield exercises reflecting real operational conditions.

Major General Godwin Mutkut commended the Army Chief for the reforms impacting troop welfare and operational efficiency.
