Nigeria Declares Public Holidays for Easter 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, April 3, and Monday, April 6, 2026, as public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday. This announcement was made in a statement issued by Dr.

Magdalen Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu highlighted the importance of the Easter season, reminding citizens of the redemptive power of Jesus Christ's crucifixion and resurrection. He urged Nigerians to embrace virtues such as selflessness, forgiveness, and love, which are exemplified in the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The President also acknowledged the current economic challenges and security issues facing the nation, calling for unity and resilience among citizens. He emphasized that the Easter message should inspire Nigerians to rise above personal grievances and foster a spirit of tolerance and coexistence, particularly in light of the ongoing hardships in the country.
