Enugu Community Divided Over Demolition of Ogbuanu's Properties

Tension has escalated in Nkanuland, Enugu State, following the demolition of buildings owned by Lagos-based businessman Dr. Basil Ogbuanu, allegedly on the orders of Mrs.

Patricia Nwobodo, wife of former Governor of old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo. Ogbuanu purchased land from Linkana Hotels Limited, where the Nwobodos are directors, and made payments in October and November 2022, which were acknowledged by the Nwobodos.

He claims to have received all necessary land sale documents and building approvals from the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA). On January 16 and 17, 2026, Mrs.

Nwobodo allegedly ordered the demolition of Ogbuanu's nearly completed buildings. In a counter-suit, she accused Ogbuanu of deceit regarding the land payment and stated her willingness to refund the money, which he has refused to accept.

Ogbuanu is now seeking N5.8 billion in compensation from the Nwobodos and their associated firms.
