Umuenu Community Protests Deputy Governor's Land Decision

Indigenes of Umuenu village in Umuawulu Community, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, protested against Deputy Governor Dr Onyekachi Ibezim's alleged efforts to overturn a Supreme Court ruling regarding a land dispute with the neighboring Enugwu Quarter. The community, represented by President-General Mr Benneth Mbolu, accused the deputy governor of bias and claimed that some individuals from Enugwu Quarter were bearing false witness against them.

They emphasized that the Supreme Court had ruled in 1973 that the disputed land, known as Agu Umuoma and Agu Umuofuu, belonged to Umuenu Quarter. The protesters expressed concerns about "powerful forces" attempting to influence the deputy governor to divide the land, which they firmly oppose.

Mbolu stated that the community had not faced challenges regarding the land until 2020 when disputes arose with Enugwu Quarter. The protest included placards demanding respect for the Supreme Court judgment and an end to interference in the land dispute.
