Nwobodo Denies Tension Over Enugu Estate Dispute

Jim Nwobodo, the former governor of old Anambra state and ex-Senator from Enugu East, has refuted claims of tension in Nkanu land over a disputed estate in Enugu. He described the reports as misleading and part of a campaign to damage his reputation.

Nwobodo, who served in the Senate from 1999 to 2003, responded to a newspaper article alleging unrest due to the demolition of buildings belonging to Lagos-based businessman Dr Basil Ogbuanu. He stated that no one from Nkanu has approached him regarding Ogbuanu or the dispute, asserting, “There is absolutely no tension anywhere in Nkanu land.” The conflict reportedly arose after Ogbuanu allegedly violated the terms of his plot purchase in Independence Layout, where he began constructing student hostels contrary to the estate's original low-density residential plan.

Nwobodo explained that development could not commence until necessary documentation was completed and highlighted that the estate's land title required recertification due to changes in the law since the 1970s.
