Favour Ashe Wins 100m Title at Commonwealth Trials

Favour Ashe secured the men's 100m title at the Commonwealth Games trials held at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos on Tuesday, clocking a personal best of 9.93 seconds. Ashe's performance improved upon his previous best of 9.94 seconds, which he set in the United States in 2024.

He led a high-quality field, with Adekalu Fakorede finishing second with a personal best of 9.98 seconds, and Chidera Ezeakor taking third with a personal best of 10.03 seconds. Ashe's journey included overcoming significant challenges, such as visa issues that disrupted his training abroad last year.

He expressed relief and happiness at winning, especially after the pressure he faced while training in Qatar. In other events, Patience Okon George won the women's 400m title with a time of 51.85 seconds, ahead of Taiwo Kudoro and Faith Ezechukwu.

The trials concluded with champions emerging in various events, finalizing Nigeria's athletics team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
