Ashe Wins 100m Title at Commonwealth Games Trials

At the Commonwealth Games trials held in Lagos on Tuesday, Ashe claimed the men's 100m title with a personal best time of 9.93 seconds. He previously recorded a time of 9.97 seconds in the semi-finals, showcasing his intent to excel.

Ashe's victory comes after a challenging year marked by visa issues that disrupted his training abroad. He expressed relief and happiness at his performance, especially after being called back to Nigeria by Tonobok Okowa, the president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).

In the women's 400m, Patience Okon George won the title with a time of 51.85 seconds, finishing ahead of Taiwo Kudoro, who set a personal best of 52.30 seconds, and Faith Ezechukwu, who achieved a personal best of 53.12 seconds. The trials concluded with champions emerging in various events, as Nigeria prepares to finalize its athletics team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.
