Favour Ashe Yet to Apply for Qatar Allegiance Switch

Favour Ashe, a 23-year-old Nigerian sprinter, has not filed for a switch of allegiance to Qatar, according to World Athletics. Despite multiple reports linking him to the Middle Eastern country, Maggi Durand, head of communications at World Athletics, confirmed that no application has been received.

Ashe, who has a personal best of 9.94 seconds in the 100m, is currently preparing for Nigeria's Commonwealth Games camp in Asaba. The process for switching allegiance requires a three-year wait period, and Ashe will not be eligible to represent Qatar until 2028.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), led by president Tonobok Okowa, is investigating the situation but has not yet responded to inquiries. Ashe has recently shared images of himself in Qatar's kit and has been training there, raising concerns about a potential exodus of Nigerian athletes seeking better opportunities abroad.
