Favour Ashe's Allegiance Switch to Qatar Unconfirmed

Favour Ashe, a 23-year-old Nigerian sprinter, has not submitted a formal application to switch his athletic allegiance to Qatar, as confirmed by Maggi Durand, head of communications at World Athletics. Speculation about Ashe's potential move intensified earlier in the month following claims that he would represent the Middle Eastern nation.

Despite his positive remarks about Qatar's training arrangements in South Africa, Durand clarified that no official application has been submitted. Ashe, who boasts a personal best of 9.94 seconds in the 100m, is currently tied for sixth on Nigeria's all-time list alongside Davidson Ezinwa.

He is among high-profile Nigerian athletes considering allegiance switches, including 150m world record holder Favour Ofili. World Athletics regulations require a three-year wait period for athletes to compete for a new federation, which would allow Ashe to potentially represent Qatar at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria, led by Tonobok Okowa, has not provided updates on Ashe's status.
