Peter Obi Decries Attack on ADC Office as Democracy Assault

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, condemned the attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) office in Bakassi, Cross River State, characterizing it as an "assault on democracy." The attack occurred during the ADC's secretariat opening on a Saturday, where suspected political thugs stormed the venue, scattering party supporters and destroying property, including canopies and loudspeakers. Obi highlighted that such violence not only targets a political party but undermines democratic values in Nigeria.

He expressed concern over the declining standards of leadership and the increasing tolerance for political misconduct, warning that this trend could destabilize the country. The Cross River State police confirmed the incident and reported the deployment of officers to restore order, with arrests made, including that of Udem Sundai Stephen, connected to the attack.

This incident follows a recent ADC event in Benin City, attended by Obi and other party figures.
