Nutrition Campaign Launched for Mothers in Kebbi Hospitals

The Progress Women Youth Development (PWYP) Kebbi Chapter, led by Mr. Hassana Richeal Samuel, launched a nutrition campaign at the antenatal unit of Sir Yahyah Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

The initiative aimed to sensitize pregnant and nursing mothers about the nutritional value of local foods. During the campaign, local food items such as soya beans, millet, watermelon, sweet potatoes, groundnuts, and fish were displayed.

Mr. Samuel emphasized the critical need for pregnant women to be aware of the nutritional deficiencies caused by a lack of basic nutrients, which can lead to complications such as blood shortages.

The campaign prepared to educate 25 nursing mothers, with an additional 50 women present seeking information. The initiative aimed to teach mothers how to mix local foods to ensure sufficient nutrient intake, thereby reducing unnecessary maternal and child mortality.

Despite facing funding challenges, the association remains committed to its mission of educating women about the benefits of local food for health.
