INEC Releases 2027 Presidential Candidates' Credentials

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars and credentials of 19 presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 general election, fulfilling a statutory requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2026. The publication allows public scrutiny of candidates' information ahead of the campaign commencement on August 19.

President Bola Tinubu will represent the All Progressives Congress with Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, with Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate.

Peter Obi is the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, with Rabiu Kwankwaso as his vice-presidential candidate. The candidates' documents include their educational qualifications, dates of birth, and occupations.

Tinubu was born on March 29, 1952, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Chicago State University. Shettima graduated with a degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri.

Atiku has a Master’s degree in International Relations from Anglia Ruskin University, while Kwankwaso holds a Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering from Kaduna Polytechnic.
