Soldier and Police Officer Killed in Zamfara Rescue Operation

On August 2, 2026, at approximately 1:40 a.m., troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA repelled a terrorist attack on a Forward Operating Base in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The attack resulted in the deaths of one Nigerian Army officer and one police officer, while two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds.

Olaniyi Osoba, reported that the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the base but were met with coordinated firepower from the troops, forcing them to retreat. Following the initial engagement, reinforcements pursued the fleeing attackers, leading to the rescue of nine abducted civilians from nearby communities.
