ASUU Issues Four-Day Ultimatum for Salary Structure Implementation

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government a four-day ultimatum to commence the implementation of a newly approved salary structure for university lecturers across Nigeria. This announcement was made by ASUU President Prof.

Christoph Piwuna during a public lecture at the Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education in Bauchi State on Thursday. The ultimatum takes effect immediately and warns that the Federal Government must begin payments according to the new salary arrangement, which was approved after prolonged negotiations.

Piwuna expressed concern over the government's repeated failure to honor agreements with the union, which has historically led to disputes and industrial actions within the university system. He criticized the government's plan to establish a branch of Coventry University in Nigeria, arguing that it undermines the development of Nigerian universities.

ASUU has also directed its members to prepare for a potential withdrawal of services if salary arrears are not addressed by June 2025.
