ASUU Demands Full Salary Payment, Threatens Action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), led by President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has issued a warning regarding the incomplete implementation of salary payments as stipulated in the 2025 agreement with the federal government.

In an interview, Osodeke stated that the union expects full payment of salaries, including the agreed allowances, by the end of March. ASUU has not issued a four-day ultimatum but has emphasized that the government must comply with the agreement.

The union highlighted that while salaries were adjusted in January, several components of the agreement remain unfulfilled, particularly affecting lecturers on sabbatical appointments who have not received their full dues. Piwuna clarified that the delay in salary payments is due to funding constraints and the government’s focus on political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The agreement includes a 40% salary increase and provisions for establishing a national research council to improve educational funding, which ASUU insists must be fully implemented.
