ASUU Resumes Indefinite Strike at Taraba State University

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced the resumption of an indefinite strike at Taraba State University, which was previously suspended. This decision, made public in a press statement signed by the union's chairman and released to journalists on Wednesday in Jalingo, stems from the Taraba State government's failure to fulfill agreements reached with the union on January 17, 2025.

The union's congress, held on February 18, 2026, reviewed the situation and concluded that the government's continued neglect of longstanding issues left them with no choice but to resume industrial action. Key grievances include the absence of a functional pension scheme, failure to pay outstanding salary arrears owed to lecturers, and non-payment of accumulated earned academic allowances.

ASUU has accused the government of failing to implement the newly negotiated 2025 agreement, which is critical for improving staff welfare and stabilizing the university system. The union emphasizes that this strike is a last resort after sustained dialogue failed to yield desirable results.
