Taraba University Unions Accept N500m Offer, Strike to End

The unions representing academic and non-academic staff at Taraba State University in Jalingo have accepted a N500 million offer from the Taraba State government, which is expected to lead to the suspension of their ongoing strike. Joshua Garba Mbave, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the institution, confirmed this development on Monday.

The agreement stipulates that the government will formally sign the contract, assuring that the promised funds will be honored. The strike, which disrupted academic activities and left thousands of students stranded, was initiated due to outstanding welfare issues, including salary concerns and service conditions.

Mbave clarified that the N500 million intervention is intended for all staff at the university, not just ASUU members. The unions are poised to call off the strike immediately after the agreement is signed.
