Taraba State Government Approves N3bn for University Staff

The ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at Taraba State University is nearing resolution as Governor Agbu Kefas announced the approval of N3 billion to settle outstanding staff entitlements. During a visit to the university campus in Jalingo, the governor revealed that N200 million would be released immediately as part of the settlement, with monthly payments of N100 million starting in April until all arrears are cleared.

This decision is viewed as a significant step towards ending the prolonged strike that has disrupted academic activities. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of university unions is scheduled to hold a congress to deliberate on the government's offer, with expectations that the union may consider suspending the strike to allow academic activities to resume.

The final decision will depend on the outcome of this congress, which is crucial for stabilizing the academic calendar and providing relief to thousands of students affected by the industrial action.
