ASUU Resumes Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Taraba State University has announced the resumption of an indefinite strike due to the Taraba State government's failure to honor earlier agreements regarding unpaid salaries and arrears. This decision follows a congress meeting held on February 18, 2026, where the union reviewed the situation and determined that unresolved issues necessitated the return to industrial action.

The union, led by branch chairman Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, cited several grievances, including the lack of a functional pension scheme for university workers, unpaid salaries and arrears, and the non-implementation of a newly negotiated agreement set for January 17, 2025.

The union accused the government of neglecting the matter, which has adversely affected staff welfare and weakened academic activities at the institution. ASUU emphasized that continued dialogue with the state government has yielded no concrete outcomes, leaving members with no choice but to withdraw their services until further notice.
