The UK government has issued a warning regarding a critical mistake that could lead to the automatic refusal of asylum applications. According to the official asylum guidance, foreigners who delay filing their asylum applications after arriving in the UK are at a higher risk of having their claims denied.

Applicants are advised to submit their applications either upon arrival or as soon as they believe returning to their home country would be unsafe. The guidance also emphasizes the importance of honesty throughout the application process, stating that providing false information can result in penalties, including imprisonment for up to two years or forced removal from the UK.

Once an application is submitted, the individual meets with an immigration officer for a screening, after which the Home Office decides if the claim will be processed. While awaiting a decision, applicants cannot work but may receive support for living costs and legal representation.
