Essential Tips for Nigerians Applying for UK Student Visa

The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has released guidance for Nigerians intending to apply for a Student visa to study in the United Kingdom. Prospective students are advised to confirm that a Student visa is appropriate for their situation using the visa-checking tool on GOV.UK.

Applicants must secure an unconditional offer from a UK institution licensed to sponsor international students before applying. Following acceptance, the institution will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS), which includes a unique reference number necessary for the visa application.

Depending on the course, particularly for master's degrees or higher, an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate may be required. Additional documents may include a tuberculosis (TB) certificate and proof of English language proficiency.

Timing is crucial; applications can be submitted up to six months before the course starts for those outside the UK, and three months for those already in the UK. UKVI also clarified that applicants do not need to purchase flight tickets prior to applying.
