Youth Urged to Claim 70% of Elective Offices in Nigeria

At the launch of the Campus Drive for Political Inclusion, Rep Abdussamad Dasuki called on Nigerian youth to occupy at least 70% of elective offices in the next electoral cycle. Speaking to students at the Federal University Lafia in Nasarawa State, Dasuki emphasized that young people should no longer be labeled as the leaders of tomorrow but should actively shape their political future.

He recalled a gathering of young leaders in Abuja on October 1, 2022, during Nigeria's 65th Independence Anniversary, where they unveiled a project aimed at increasing youth representation. Dasuki proposed that 70% of local government chairmanship seats and 50% of federal and state executive appointments be reserved for young Nigerians.

The initiative, described as non-partisan, aims to transform governance culture and promote credible youth candidates across political parties. Dasuki also encouraged students to engage in political processes, join political parties, and participate in policy debates.

The event attracted 300 students and included interactive sessions to foster political literacy.
