ATBU VC Urges New Students to Avoid Drug Abuse

During the matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session held at the Yelwa campus of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Prof. Ibrahim Hassan, the Vice Chancellor, warned the newly admitted 4,355 students against engaging in drug abuse and cultism. He described the matriculation as the beginning of a new journey for the students and a significant milestone in their academic careers.

Prof. Hassan highlighted the competitive nature of securing admission into the university and urged students to reject drug abuse, which he referred to as a "poison" that could jeopardize their academic futures. He emphasized the need for students to remain focused on their studies and to utilize the university's resources effectively, including libraries and digital learning platforms.

Additionally, he called on parents and guardians to support their children throughout their academic journey and urged university staff to commit to mentoring and guiding the students. The breakdown of the admitted students included various faculties, with significant numbers in agriculture, engineering, and veterinary medicine.
