Atiku Demands Tinubu Resign Over PFIPC Account Contradictions

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has demanded that President Bola Tinubu apologize to Nigerians and resign over the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council scandal. In a statement released Wednesday through his spokesperson Phrank Shaibu, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate attacked the federal government's handling of revelations involving bank accounts tied to the council.

Atiku's position centers on contradictory explanations from two key financial institutions: the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. Both agencies have provided differing accounts regarding how the PFIPC bank accounts were opened and managed.

The former vice president characterized these conflicting narratives as evidence that the administration is entangled in internal inconsistencies that undermine public trust. Through his spokesperson, Atiku characterized the government as trapped by its own contradictions, suggesting a credibility problem for the Tinubu administration.

He stopped short of spelling out specific details of the contradictions but emphasized that the divergent explanations demanded resolution. The ADC candidate also called for an independent investigation into the matter, signaling that he views the current institutional responses as insufficient.

The PFIPC scandal has drawn scrutiny from multiple quarters, including the House of Representatives. Testimony presented to lawmakers by the Central Bank reportedly differed markedly from earlier positions held by the Accountant-General's office.
