Atiku Abubakar Demands Tinubu's Resignation Over Audit Bill

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Vice President, has publicly urged President Bola Tinubu to either assent to the Federal Audit Service Bill or resign from his position. This statement was issued on Friday through his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu.

Abubakar expressed concern over the administration's delay in acting on the bill, which has been pending for several months since its transmission to the National Assembly. He highlighted that the delay indicates a growing disregard for constitutional provisions and the rule of law.

Citing Section 58(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Abubakar argued that the President is mandated to either assent to or withhold assent from bills presented within 30 days, emphasizing that this is not a discretionary option. He warned that prolonged delays in legislative action could weaken public institutions and send a negative message at a time when Nigerians are demanding stronger accountability mechanisms.
