Atiku Abubakar Criticizes EFCC for Freezing Osun Account

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) decision to freeze the Osun State Government’s statutory allocation account. He described this action as a dangerous assault on democracy, particularly as it occurred just days before the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku expressed concerns that such a freeze could undermine public confidence in the electoral process, disrupt governance, delay salary payments, and impede essential public services. He emphasized that while anti-corruption agencies have a duty to investigate financial misconduct, they must do so without creating the impression of political interference.

Atiku alleged a pattern of selective deployment of federal institutions against opposition-controlled states and called for the immediate lifting of the account restriction, warning that ordinary residents would suffer the consequences.
