Atiku Abubakar Denounces Blockade of PDP Event in Abuja

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), rejected the blockade of a PDP event in Abuja, describing the move as unconstitutional and politically motivated. In a statement issued on Saturday, he argued that denying political parties access to public venues violates constitutional guarantees of freedom of association and peaceful assembly.

Abubakar criticized the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for denying the PDP the opportunity to hold its event, labeling it a blatant abuse of the party's rights. He warned that such selective access erodes confidence in democratic institutions and suggested that the actions reflect a pattern of discrimination against opposition parties, particularly the PDP, by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Abubakar emphasized that the government should guarantee equal access to public and private facilities for all political parties and urged civil society groups to resist efforts to suppress legitimate political participation.
