Atiku Abubakar Demands Details on Lagos-Calabar Highway Loan

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has sought clarification regarding the rerouting of sections of the Lagos-Calabar highway and a proposed loan of up to US$20 billion. In a statement released on Monday through Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku urged the Federal Government to provide details on the original and revised routes of the highway project.
He requested the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, to publish the original feasibility and environmental studies, along with the original and revised designs, route maps, and contract details, including variations, approvals, and payment certificates. Atiku expressed concerns about the potential removal of sections from the original route, the payments made so far, and the revised project cost.
He also called for confirmation regarding the existence of the loan request and its intended purpose, terms, and the projects it would finance. Additionally, he urged the National Assembly leadership to ensure proper scrutiny and public hearings for any borrowing proposals.
