Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu on Fuel Price Comparison

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticized President Bola Tinubu's recent comments comparing Nigeria's fuel prices to those in Kenya. Atiku, representing the African Democratic Congress, stated that Nigeria's economy is worse off despite having lower petrol prices.

His remarks, issued through Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication Phrank Shaibu, followed Tinubu's comments during a visit to Bayelsa State, where the President urged Nigerians to appreciate the relatively lower petrol prices compared to Kenya. Atiku argued that such comparisons are misplaced and fail to reflect the economic realities faced by Nigerians, emphasizing that the cost of living in Kenya is significantly higher despite lower fuel prices.

He pointed out the decline in Nigerians' earning power compared to Kenyans, where the GDP per capita is nearly double that of Nigeria. Atiku expressed disappointment in the President's approach, suggesting it lacks empathy and clarity, especially as citizens grapple with rising poverty and inflation.
