Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu on Fuel Price Remarks

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, criticized President Bola Tinubu's comments made during a visit to Bayelsa, where Tinubu suggested that Nigerians live on petrol. Atiku, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, stated that this remark misrepresents the economic realities faced by Nigerians.

He emphasized that the cost of living in Nigeria is significantly impacted by income levels, and compared Nigeria's economic situation unfavorably to that of Kenya and South Africa. Atiku pointed out that while petrol prices may seem lower in Nigeria, the purchasing power and income levels are much worse, with Nigeria's minimum wage at 70,000 Naira compared to Kenya's 170,000 Naira.

He urged the Tinubu administration to confront the full scope of the economic crisis rather than deflecting blame and providing misleading comparisons, highlighting the need for empathy and decisive leadership during these challenging times.
