AUN and MAAUN Excel in 2026 World University Rankings

The American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola and the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) in Kano have emerged as notable institutions in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, which includes a total of 24 Nigerian universities. Among these, 17 are public and 7 are private universities, with AUN and MAAUN being highlighted as leading private institutions.

MAAUN's achievement is particularly significant as it has only been established for four years, showcasing its commitment to academic excellence and research development. Professor Ahm Maigari, the institution's representative, emphasized MAAUN's strategic investments in human capital and infrastructure, which have contributed to its growing reputation.

Dr. Buhari Abdullahi from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma described the emergence of MAAUN and AUN in global rankings as a positive development for Nigeria's education sector, indicating the increasing visibility and competitiveness of Nigerian private universities on the world stage.
