Nigerian Universities Achieve Strong Global Rankings

Nigerian universities have shown significant improvement in global rankings, with the University of Ibadan and the University of Lagos recognized as the highest-ranked institutions in Nigeria. This achievement is a result of the reforms implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

The latest rankings indicate that 24 Nigerian universities are represented in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, marking a notable resurgence in public universities. Dr.

Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Federal Minister of Education, stated that these results demonstrate the positive impact of government efforts to reposition higher education as a driver of national development. The rankings reflect improvements in research, innovation, quality assurance, and digital transformation within the educational sector.

Additionally, 27 Nigerian universities submitted data for assessment, showcasing their commitment to meeting global standards. The Minister emphasized the importance of education in national development and acknowledged the support from President Tinubu and contributions from various stakeholders.
