Australia First to Qualify for 2027 Women’s World Cup

Australia secured its qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup by defeating North Korea 2-1 in the semi-final of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. The match took place at the Perth Rectangular Stadium.

Alanna Kennedy opened the scoring in the ninth minute, marking her fifth goal in the competition. Captain Sam Kerr doubled the lead shortly after halftime in the 47th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error.

North Korea reduced the deficit in the 65th minute when Chae Un Yong scored following a cross from Kim Kyong Yong. This victory not only qualified Australia for the World Cup but also marked a milestone for midfielder Emili Van Egmond, who equaled Clare Polkinghorn's record with 169 international appearances.

Australia will face the winner of the quarter-final clash between defending champions China and Chinese Taipei in the final.
