Australia Restricts Travel for Iranian Visa Holders

Australia's Department of Home Affairs has enacted temporary travel restrictions on Iranian passport holders who hold a Visitor (Subclass 600) visa, effective from March 26, 2026, and lasting for six months. This measure suspends the visa rights of most affected individuals who are outside Australia as of that date.

The restrictions aim to protect the integrity of Australia's migration system amid concerns that some visa holders may not be able or willing to leave Australia due to deteriorating conditions in Iran. Individuals affected by the restrictions will have their visa rights automatically restored if their visas remain valid at the end of the six-month period.

Those whose visas expire during this time must apply for a new visa. Exemptions from these restrictions include spouses, de facto partners, or dependent children of Australian citizens or residents, as well as parents of children under 18 already in Australia.

The Department also offers a Permitted Travel Certificate for those needing to travel under specific circumstances.
