Australian Woman Welcomes Identical Quadruplets

Jenitar Na Amoana, a 34-year-old woman from Australia, gave birth to identical quadruplets through a caesarean section on July 14, at 28 weeks gestation. The quadruplets, described as monozygotic, resulted from a single fertilized egg splitting into four embryos.

Dr. Alexa Bendal, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and obstetrician, oversaw the pregnancy, which carried significant risks, prompting her to admit Na Amoana to the hospital at 25 weeks for close monitoring.

The newborns were named Emili, Harriet, Catherine, and the fourth baby’s name was not specified. They are currently in the neonatal intensive care unit and are expected to stay until they reach full term.

The couple, who already have four children aged 10 years, launched an online fundraising campaign to help purchase a 10-seat van, raising $37,000. Doctors estimate the odds of naturally conceiving quadruplets to be roughly 1 in 700,000 births.
