Aviation Minister Keyamo Addresses Industry Challenges

On August 13, 2026, Hon. Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, convened an emergency stakeholders' meeting to address pressing industrial challenges in Nigeria's aviation sector. This meeting followed the temporary suspension of industrial action by the Aviation Sector Unions on August 11, 2026.

Key resolutions from the meeting included directives for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other aviation agencies to establish a schedule of payments from airlines, considering operational costs and economic conditions. Additionally, Directors of Finance and Accounts in all aviation agencies were tasked to negotiate realistic repayment plans with individual airlines within one week.

The Minister affirmed workers' rights regarding union membership and mandated the NCAA to facilitate direct access for unions to workers across all airlines. A follow-up meeting is scheduled in one month to review progress.

The Minister reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to a safe and efficient aviation industry.
