Awka Indigenes Petition IGP Over Police Abuse Allegations

Indigenes of Awka, Anambra State, have formally petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, regarding alleged abuses of power by police operatives from the Anambra Police Command. The petition, coordinated by Sundai Ezebunamadu, highlights concerns over police interference in a long-standing land dispute between Awka and the neighboring Nibo community.

The matter involves Chief Kenneth Afamefuna Ezekwesili, who is a claimant in the land dispute. The petitioners accuse the police of arbitrarily arresting individuals involved in the case and taking sides in a civil land dispute that has already been adjudicated by the appellate court.
