Bala Mohammed to Join APC Amid Power-Sharing Talks

Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, plans to defect from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday. This decision comes after a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu and APC leadership, where discussions focused on the potential membership of Mohammed in APC.

A contentious issue remains regarding the nomination of his successor, as Mohammed has requested a 60-40 power-sharing structure. However, the APC leadership insists that the party's structure is not solely based on individual requests.

The situation is further complicated by ongoing tensions within the PDP, particularly from the faction led by Nyesom Wike, which has set non-negotiable conditions for reconciliation talks. These conditions include a demand for the party to contest positions in the 2027 general elections and the necessity of holding a national convention on March 29.

Despite these internal conflicts, PDP leaders maintain that the party remains a strong opposition force.
