Banda and Chawinga Lead Golden Boot Race in Morocco

At the ongoing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Zambia captain Barbra Banda and Malawi forward Temwa Chawinga are the early frontrunners for the Golden Boot. Banda, playing for Orlando Pride, leads the scoring charts with four goals and one assist, having played a pivotal role in Zambia's 6-0 victory over Egypt in their Group C opener at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

Banda's contributions included a penalty won by Racheal Nachula, her own penalty conversion, a header, and two additional goals. Eneless Phiri also scored for Zambia.

Meanwhile, Chawinga, representing Kansas City Current, scored a hat-trick in Malawi's stunning 3-2 win against Nigeria, marking Malawi's first-ever goal at the finals and securing a stoppage-time winner. Both players did not score in their second group stage matches.

Cameroon’s Marie Ngah Manga is also in contention with three goals.
