Malawi Scorchers Reach Historic WAFCON Final

Malawi's Scorchers made history by reaching their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final after defeating Algeria 3-1 in a semi-final match held in Rabat on Wednesday. The Chawinga sisters were pivotal in this victory, with Tabitha Chawinga scoring twice and Temwa Chawinga contributing one goal.

The match was intense, with both teams reduced to 10 players before half-time due to red cards. Algeria's Morgane Belkhiter was sent off in the 23rd minute, allowing Malawi to take the lead with Tabitha Chawinga's goal in the 33rd minute.

Temwa Chawinga doubled the lead just before half-time, but Malawi's Rose Kadzere was also sent off shortly before the break. Algeria managed to score through Ikram Adjabi in the 60th minute, but Tabitha Chawinga secured the win with her second goal in the 76th minute.

This victory not only advances Malawi to the WAFCON final but also marks their debut in the tournament's history, having never reached the semi-finals before.
